Vintage Commercials – Part Three – “Ideal Women”

adminBlog, print advertising, vintage advertising

Throwback Thursday

First a look at four vintage commercial gems from the 1950s and 60s. They were a bit more stilted without the technology we have today, but they still used cute animals and reverse psychology to sell products.

Step into a world where the ability to have no skills at your job was considered a positive, where a bad cup of coffee was a divorce-able offense, and where the idea of women drivers was as intense as the opening credits for an 80’s action movie.

And as a special bonus, some equally disturbing sexist print ads for your viewing pleasure. Some of them aren’t so different from the ones you see today – only modern ads are a little more subtle than these and generally less focused on how terrible women are at everything. We’ve come a long way, baby.
